History of St. Joseph Chaplet

The members of our community have a strong dedication to St. Joseph.  As the patron saint of our community we desired to do something special for him, that he may intercede for us in a more personal way.  It was then that we decided to create a chaplet dedicated to the Foster Father of Jesus.

We all wanted to contribute our own personal ideas for the selection of prayers.  The chaplet itself is unique because each section contains seven beads and there are a total of seven sections.  After a prayerful decision we agreed to certain prayers to offer to our Patriarch.

The opening prayer - It is promised that whoever shall read this prayer or take with them, shall never die a sudden death or be drowned, nor shall poison take effect on them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy, or shall be burned in any fire or shall be empowered in battle.

After the opening prayer we profess our faith in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church by reciting the Apostles Creed.  The next three prayers are dedicated to God the Father (Our Father), God the Son (Anima Christi), and God the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit Wisdom Prayer).

After professing our faith and calling on the Holy Trinity we say a prayer dedicated to Our Lady.  My Sovereign Lady is an act of surrender to Our Lord through Our Lady’s most holy intercession and merits.

As the patron saint of all virtues, we selected specific virtues to pray for through the Protector of Holy Church.  These virtues are charity, purity and chastity, humility and obedience, justice and prudence, simplicity and piety, patience, and courage and strength.  We thought that before each virtue we would say a prayer to offer to St. Joseph so that he would here our humble petitions.  So we choose the Prayer for a Heavenly Crown.  This brief powerful prayer was written by Pope Pius X.

Our concluding prayer, To You, O Blessed Joseph, was prescribed by Pope Leo XIII.  Collectively we felt that this prayer would be ideal for the near close of the chaplet.  St. Joseph is so often hidden throughout the history of Our Church, but we must turn to him for protection from the enemy who is Satan, and beg that we strengthened by his help.

Remembering that St. Joseph was from the house of David, we thrice ask for him to pray for us at the end of the chaplet.  Since we created the chaplet in the summer of 2003, we have all grown a deeper relationship with the Light of Patriarchs.  Through the intercession of St. Joseph and his Most Holy Spouse, we all desire to be united to Christ in holiness and purity.  We hope that you receive many blessing from reciting this inspired chaplet.
